Mooney, Green, Saindon, Murphy & Welch, P.C. was founded in 1996 to provide legal services to labor organizations that represent America’s working men and women, and their associated employee benefit plans. Since the Firm’s inception, we have been fortunate to represent unions and benefit plans in a broad variety of industries and crafts, including fire fighting, building and construction, coal mining, federal, state, local and municipal government, the maritime industry, healthcare and other service industries, local and long-distance hauling, transportation, rail, manufacturing, printing, security, and nursing. For more about the specific services we provide, please see our practice pages.
The Firm represents its clients at every level of the court system, all the way up to the Supreme Court. The Firm’s Supreme Court practice has included its success in such cases as Eastern Associated Coal Corporation v. United Mine Workers of America, 531 U.S. 57 (2000), as well as its participation in Eastern Enterprises v. Apfel, 522 U.S. 931 (1997), Barnhart v. Sigmon Coal Co., 534 U.S. 438 (2002), and Barnhart v. Peabody Coal Co., 537 U.S. 149 (2003).
Many of our clients have been with us since our founding – a sign of the hard work and strong relationships we have forged. Our clients view us as a partner in their success. We are honored and humbled by the faith and trust that they put in us. Every day we work to ensure that the unions and benefit plans we represent can fulfill their missions to their members and participants.
This dedication has led to recent growth within the Firm. Since 2022, we have proudly served as the general counsel to the International Association of Fire Fighters, supporting the IAFF’s mission to advance the rights, safety and future of fire fighters, emergency medical workers, and rescue workers and representing individual fire fighters and related first responders in litigation across the country.
In April 2024, our associate attorneys, members of the Organization of Workplace Lawyers Local 1935, ratified a historic first collective bargaining agreement – making us the first and only law firm in Washington, DC to have its attorneys organized and working under a collective bargaining agreement.
As we go forward with our work, we do so with a shared purpose, not only among our lawyers, but also with our clients. For us, providing superior legal services to our clients and helping them in their all-important work is not only our job, it is our mission.
