About

Daniel J. Sweat represents labor unions, employee benefit plans, and employees in a variety of legal and transactional matters, in both the public and private sectors.  His practice primarily consists of advising clients in traditional labor relations, including collective bargaining, organizing, arbitrations, and internal union affairs.  He also has experience advising a number of labor unions representing federal employees under the Federal Service Labor-Management Relations Statute (FSLMRS).  He has spoken at the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance annual conference on militant organizing tactics as well as the arbitration process. He is a contributing editor of the seminal labor law treatise, The Developing Labor Law, and was featured on National Public Radio’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! for a segment on labor law.

Mr. Sweat earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2022.  During law school, he clerked at two of the largest union-side labor law firms in the South, where he gained experience supporting unions in prominent organizing campaigns, strikes, and national master agreement negotiations.  During his time in law school, he also actively assisted Nashville restaurant workers in successfully organizing their workplaces and asserting their rights in the workplace. Mr. Sweat received a B.A. in Religious Studies from Centre College in 2018.
