About

John Ackerman is a litigation associate who represents public and private sector labor unions and employees in a variety of labor and employment matters, including violations of the National Labor Relations Act and Fair Labor Standards Act.

Mr. Ackerman earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2023. During his time at Michigan Law School, Mr. Ackerman worked as a legal intern for the National Labor Relations Board and the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice.  In addition, Mr. Ackerman helped establish the restorative justice felony diversion program in Washtenaw County, Michigan.  Mr. Ackerman received a B.A. with honors in Political Science from American University in 2013.

Prior to law school, Mr. Ackerman worked at the Orleans Public Defenders as an investigator, at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, and in private practice.  Mr. Ackerman represented criminal defendants charged with serious felonies and, in private practice, investigated systemic civil rights violations. In New Orleans, his investigations resulted in the exoneration of two defendants charged with murders they did not commit– casework that was officially recognized by the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
